Andy Cohen of ‘Watch What Happens: Live’
If you’re only going to be fabulous one night a year (though why limit it to one night?), make it New Year’s Eve.
It’s the night when too much isn’t enough, sequins are pretty much required, and a boa can be considered staid.
These rules may well work for women and men, though most men, such as Andy Cohen, host of Bravo’s Watch What Happens: Live Friday, Dec. 31, tend toward more traditional New Year’s Eve attire.
He plans on being fabulous in a tuxedo.
“Brad Goreski from The Rachel Zoe Project was helping me with my tux,” Cohen says. “I’ll probably skip the cummerbund. We are looking for a tux with a little bit of flair.”
Cohen, also the senior vice president of original programming and development at Bravo, can call on stylish pals to help him, but he is an admitted “total clotheshorse.” It helps that he lives in Manhattan, a shopper’s paradise.
Cohen wears a lot of Hugo Boss and Ralph Lauren. He loves shopping at the flagship store in a mansion on Madison Avenue.
“You can find me there a lot,” he says. “I have had a lot of great success at the Hugo Boss at the Time Warner Center. I wear so many suits, and so it really is Ralph Lauren Black Label, and I pick and choose my Hugo Boss stuff.”
He also frequents Seize sur Vingt in Soho.
“They have unbelievable shirts and suits that are also custom (made) and I shop there a lot,” he says.
Cohen loves pocket squares and cuff links and buys them everywhere, including flea markets and vintage stores. His ties are mostly Lauren and Seize sur Vingt. Shoes are Nikes and Lauren.
The downside to being a clotheshorse and living in Manhattan is a typical lack of closets. Though Cohen says he has a lot of storage space, he adds, “I think my big gift to myself is going to be to have my closets done early next year. That will be my big project. I care about my clothes too much to jam them in.”
One of the upsides, though, is who can drop by your clubhouse. For New Year’s Eve, Cohen’s “having the ultimate house party from my little clubhouse,” he says. “It will be a lot of Bravo (personalities). Kim (Zolciak) is going to sing. We are going to have Jeff (Lewis) and Jenni (Pulos) from Flipping Out. Cheyenne Jackson, star of 30 Rock and a whole bunch of other Broadway shows. We’ll have the mazels of the year.”
He refers to the show’s segment where he praises people for good moves and hands out “jack holes” for particularly stupid moments.
Expect a dash of fabulousness on the New Year’s Eve show.
“We want people dressed well,” he says. “People always to seem to dress for our little clubhouse.”
