KENT, Ohio — A sold-out 25th anniversary gala Saturday, Sept. 25 at Kent State University Museum will herald the museum’s exhibition “Katharine Hepburn: Dressed for Stage and Screen,” which opens Saturday, Oct. 2.
Appearing at the museum’s silver anniversary gala will be Turner Classic Movies host Robert Osborne and actor Ann Rutherford, who among other roles starred in “Gone with the Wind” as Scarlett O’Hara’s younger sister, and as Polly Benedict in Mickey Rooney’s “Andy Hardy” movies.
Maybe you don’t have a ticket to the gala, but you’ll have a chance to meet Osborne and Rutherford. They will sign autographs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 25 at the museum located at 515 Hilltop Dr., Kent. (Museum is on the university’s campus near the intersection of South Lincoln and East Main Streets.)
Admission to the museum during today’s two-hour autograph session and to see the museum (the Hepburn exhibition will not be open) is $15.
Regular museum admission is $5, adults; $4, ages 55 and older; $3 ages 7 to 18; and under 7 free. Museum hours are: 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m. to 8:45 p.m., Thursday; noon to 4:50 p.m., Sunday. The museum is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Saturday, Oct. 9 – Kent State homecoming tours – gallery talk,”Putting It Together; Kate Comes to Kent!” 11 a.m.
Saturday, Oct. 9 – “In Fashion” on “Footlight Parade,” 6 p.m., WCLV FM/104.9. Host and musical historian Bill Rudman takes a look at how the American musical treated fashion. The program features a segment on Hepburn in the Broadway musical “Coco,” as Coco Chanel.
Thursday, Oct. 14 – Film and discussion at the museum: “Morning Glory,” Hepburn’s 1933 film, with post-movie talk: “Young Kate: Bright, Brash and Bound to Glory.” 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 23 and Sunday, Oct. 24 – Film: “Holiday,” Hepburn’s 1938 film at Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque, 11141 East Blvd. in University Circle. Admission: $9; $6 for Cinematheque members and those with a KSU ID. Film shown at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday and at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
