New York Eco Fashion Week: Twilight Meets ‘Stars at Night’ in Susan Cianciolo Spring 2011 (Slideshow)

New York Fashion Week is in full swing and I am reporting live from the media lounge at The GreenShows, where ten environmentally- and ethically-sound fashion brands are presenting their spring 2011 collections. First up: Susan Cianciolo (don’t miss photos from her fall 2010 collection):
At first glance, the artist and designer’s collection of hand-sewn couture and ready-to-wear garments may appear hippie-dippie, but there is more than meets the eye; I caught up with the designer after the show to get the story, and history, of her garments, from the Hinaya textiles sourced from an old family in Japan to her inspiration for spring 2011: the Twilight series and stars in the sky. Her clothing is best viewed in context, click through for photos and excerpts from my interview with the designer.
