Crazy for Tights: Part 1 in a 2 part series about tights

When I found out about Kristin’s “No Pants” challenge, I started thinking a lot about one of my favorite articles of clothing: tights. Now that she is wearing skirts and dresses to work every day for a month, she is going to need something to cover her legs, to keep them warm in this chilly winter weather.

Personally, I am not a fan of pants, but they are the most practical item for winter, as it gets very chilly. Tights are a great alternative to pants, and an item of clothing I find to be extremely comfortable. Not to mention, they are extremely fashionable and a great accessory.

Tights are sold in a range of prices, so there is something for everyone’s wallet. Wear them to work, or wear them out on the town with your friends- they are a very versatile piece of clothing.

The Brighter, The Better

Nowadays, tights come in all colors. From neon yellow to maroon, you name it and there is a tight in that color. Don’t be afraid to try the bold colors. Obviously, at work, a neon yellow pair might not be the best choice, but try other colors. Pair maroon or olive green tights with a khaki or cream skirt. You can also try purple or pink tights with a black skirt. Want to try a little more color? Olive tights with a navy skirt look really cute. One caution I have with bright tights is if you are going to go bold with the tights, make sure the rest of your outfit is simple, allowing your legs to be the focus.

Patterns, Patterns

While you may not feel comfortable sporting hot pink tights, you can still wear tights without having to settle for the nude or plain black ones. Patterned tights can be paired with a dress, skirt or a sweater dress. Not allowed to wear leggings to work? Take your favorite sweater dress and pair it with a pair of patterned or textured tights. Now not only will you stay warm and cozy, but you will look stylish.

Lace

Black lace tights add a little spice to your outfit, but can be seen as a little provocative at times. If you are going to wear these to work, make sure you still look professional. Pair with a simple black dress or some bold colors; these tights can work with almost anything.

Sweater Tights

Sweater tights can come in a variety of patterns and colors. The great thing about them is that they are warmer than your typical opaque tight. These are great for that snowy or just below freezing day when you still want to wear your favorite dress, but don’t want to freeze in the process.

What tights are your favorites? What are your some of your favorite tights look that you wear to work? Check back next week for Tights Part 2, where we will discuss how to pick the best tights for your body.
